The cloth in this painting has sentimental value to me, for it was handmade by a female survivor of human trafficking. I wished to capture the sense of joy, release and freedom that radiates from it. I chose to ground the cloth with a white bowl and a teacup on a plate to create stability, for compositional and allegorical purposes.
